If you’re up for a challenge, then look no further! It is often said that ‘difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations,’ and the Tal Sartaba hiking trail is more proof that a little challenge can be incredibly rewarding.Starting from the Pella Visitor Center, the hike descends into the valley nestled between the archaeological site and Tal al-Husun. From there, begin the long ascent up Tal Sartaba. It’s going to be a long trek up, but the awe inspiring views from the top are no small consolation prize. The first checkpoint will be a plateau half way through the uphill climb, overlooking the Pella farms and fish pond. The route then continues along the southern ridge of the mountain before continuing the push upwards. The whole trail is dotted with pine trees, providing shade and reprieve when needed. Finally, the ground begins to even out approaching the top of the mountain. Here, the pine trees disappear and instead are replaced by old and mighty oaks. There is even a huge pile of stones – the remains of an ancient structure – to rest by before beginning the inevitable descent to the valley and back to Beit al Fanan. The trail links with sections of the Jordan Trail which can be further explored.
